LE TRAVAIL d’un musicien est, le plus souvent, une affaire très solitaire. Atteignant les profondeurs de leur être, certains semblent être capables sans effort d’évoquer une peinture aussi vivante que n’importe quel Seurat, aussi profonde que n’importe laquelle des Pinturas Negras de Goya, aussi réaliste que la Santa Teresa du Bernin. Nuit après nuit, ils exploitent leur propre Sanctum Sanctorum et font ressortir des cadeaux d'une rare beauté, les intégrant avec désinvolture dans un monde déjà plein de plaisirs simples, d'une courte capacité d'attention et de beaucoup de chagrin. Une entreprise de Sisyphe, celle de guérir les cœurs malheureux…LES QUINZE musiciens représentés ici, ainsi que des milliers d'autres rien qu'à Paris, sont les véritables gardiens de la flamme : ils suivent les traces de nos pères, gardant constamment le brassage du jazz en percolation ; ils veillent à ce que nos cœurs restent chauds et que, ne serait-ce que pour un refrain ou deux, l'avenir reste radieux.

SHIMON GAMBOURG est un bassiste et compositeur new-yorkais. Ayant fait ses débuts en écriture orchestrale en 2022 avec Miguel Zenón et le Nordpool Orkest, il s'engage régulièrement avec des groupes aussi divers que Vincent Herring et « Something Else ! » et le MIT Festival Orchestra. Qualifié de « talent prodigieux » par le New York City Jazz Record, ses compositions lui ont valu deux prix ASCAP et quatre prix AICF, et il a récemment participé en tant que finaliste au concours de l'International Society of Bassists au Michigan. Shimon est titulaire d’une licence en musique de film et en production musicale du Berklee College of Music, ainsi que d’un master en composition de la Manhattan School of Music. THE WORK of a musician is, more often than not, a very lonely affair. Reaching far down and into the depths of their being, some appear as if they are effortlessly able to conjure a painting as vivid as any Seurat, as profound as any of Goya’s Pinturas Negras, as lifelike as Bernini’s Santa Teresa. Night in and night out, they tap into their own Sanctum Sanctorum and bring out gifts of rare beauty, casually embedding those into a world already full of simple pleasures, short attention spans, and a whole lot of heartache. A truly Sisyphean undertaking, that is, to cure heartache…THE FIFTEEN musicians represented here, along with thousands more in Paris alone, are the true keepers of the flame - they follow in the footsteps of our fathers, keeping the brew of jazz constantly in percolation; they make sure that our hearts stay warm and that, if only for a chorus or two, the future stays bright.

SHIMON GAMBOURG is a bassist and composer from New York. Having made his orchestral writing debut in 2022 with Miguel Zenón and the Nordpool Orkest, he is steadily engaged with groups as diverse as Vincent Herring and “Something Else!” and the MIT Festival Orchestra. Called a “prodigious talent” by the New York City Jazz Record, his compositions have garnered him two ASCAP awards and four AICF awards, and he has most recently participated as a finalist in the International Society of Bassists competition in Michigan. Shimon holds a bachelor’s degree in film scoring and music production from Berklee College of Music, and a master’s degree in composition from Manhattan School of Music. His working band can be heard on “Quintet” (Beacoup, 2023), available now on your closest streaming platform. This is his first exhibition.
